In the year 1915, Europe was at war but the United States is remained neutral. Woodrow Wilson was President, widowed in 1914, he quickly fell in love with Edith Bolling. For the third and last time a serving U. S. President was getting married.  Only one man had the skill and genius to cater a Presidential wedding, that man was  Ettore Boiardi.

Boiardi was born in Italy then immigrated to America in 1914, He began working at the Plaza Hotel in New York working his way up quickly to Head Chef. After WWI, Bioardi also catered an event for President Wilson and soldiers returning victorious from WWI. He then moved  to Ohio and started his own Italian restaurant.  Quickly, the Chef’s marinara sauce became popular, people would come and get used milk bottles filled with it. Later, demand for his sauce became such that Boiardi opened a factor to produce it.  He introduced his product to the public in 1928, naming his company after himself, but spelling Boy-Ar-Dee so people could pronounce it  correctly.

MMmm, Beefy.

So the next time you have beef-a-roni for dinner, be sure to point out to your dinner guests that Chef Boyardi was the last man to cater a Presidential wedding. I’m sure your cat will be impressed.
